What is the difference between Dig Right & One Call?

Ontario One Call is the notification system where all public locate requests must be submitted. One call takes your request and notifies all the possible utility companies in your work area.

Dig Right is an intermediary that takes your request to One Call and manages the request from start to finish. When you use Dig Right you are hiring experienced professionals to ensure your locate request is accurate, that your locates cover your proposed excavation, and that you have recieved all of the required paperwork.  Dig Right also takes to the time to follow up with the locate service providers to get your locate done in a timely manner and summarizes your entire locate package in one easy to understand document.

What is the difference between Public & Private Locates?

Public utilities are classified as any utility that exist (even partially) in the public right of way. However, portions of these utilities can also exist on private property which is why you still need public locates when digging on private property. Public utilities can only be located through the Ontario One Call system. Private utilities are utilities that are located only on private property and owned by the property. Private locates can only mark the private utilities so be cautious of any private locator who tries to also provide the public services. You will not be covered by a private locate for any damage to a public utility (with the exception of the dedicated locator program). 

Dig Right provides public locates as a third party through the Ontario One Call request system.

What do I need Locates for?

Utility locates are mandatory in Ontario for for any work that involves excavation, drilling, or other activity that could damage buried utilities on public or private property. A locate request notifies any nearby utility owners who must provide you with a clearance if their utility is not at risk from your work, or they must mark the position of their utility and provide a locate document along with their markings. 

Digging without locates puts you at risk of injury from buried gas and electrical lines and makes you liable for any damage caused. 

How much does Dig Right cost?

We charge $65/Request which is billed on delivery of the completed locate request.
